Sheep Rescue Service

No team walk this week as I’m up in Yorkshire. I took Deefer the Dog for a walk in the hills around Dovestone reservoir, it was great to be back in some proper hills!

We came across a sheep which had fallen into one of the deep drainage channels leading to the reservoir. I called North West Water, but sadly “there’s a sheep stuck in your reservoir” wasn’t part of their call script. The woman who took my call gamely tried to stick to her training, asking me for my address and suggesting that as I lived in Hertfordshire, perhaps I wasn’t a North West Water customer. Eventually, I persuaded her that it wasn’t my water I was worried about, it was the increased sheep content of their water which concerned me.

I believe she pulled out all the stops though, as I was later called by a chap who had been called out to reservoir to say that the sheep had been rescued, and that the Mountain Rescue Service and the Fire Brigade had attended.

Dovestone’s also my tramping ground. Hope you enjoyed it. If you want to get fit quick try a few repetitions of the climb & scramble up to Indian’s Head.
